Jackie Hoffman to Star in Revival of Once Upon a Mattress

The world premiere of ”The Blonde Streak” also joins Transport Group’s 2015 season.

Transport Group Theatre Company has announced two productions for its 2015 season.

The world premiere of Dan Lipton and David Rossmer's romantic musical comedy The Blonde Streak will open the season. The story follows Walter, a hopelessly romantic chef, who gets jilted on his wedding day and takes off in the matrimonial limo with his best friend and his favorite ex to try to figure out why. Described as "Apatow-esque," The Blonde Streak is the roadtrip of a mid-lifetime for these three 30somethings, forced to deal with the endless and ageless struggle of growing up. Directed by Transport Group Artistic Director Jack Cummings III, the production is set to run from July 5-August 16 at Theatre 79.

The Tony-nominated "Princess and the Pea"-inspired musical Once Upon a Mattress will follow, with a run from November 29-January 3, 2016, at Abrons Arts Center. Jackie Hoffman (On the Town) will star as the less-than-regal Princess Winnifred the Woebegone, who arrives on the scene to win the hapless heart of Prince Dauntless. John "Lypsinka" Epperson (My Deah, The Passion of the Crawford) also joins the cast as the malevolent Queen Aggravain, who tries to come between Winnifred and her son. Hoffman and Epperson reprise the roles they performed in a one-night-only concert presentation of the musical, produced by Transport Group in June 2013.

Once Upon a Mattress features music by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer, and a book by Jay Thompson, Marshall Barer, and Dean Fuller. Cummings will direct the revival production.
