McCarter Theatre Center has announced that Jasmine Forsberg and Benji Santiago will star in the world premiere of Lauren Gunderson and Ari Afsar’s new musical I & You, a co-production with Olney Theatre Center. Directed by Sarah Rasmussen, the musical runs September 13-October 12.
With a book by Gunderson, based on her 2013 play of the same title, and a score by Afsar, the two-character musical follows a surprise visit between housebound teenager Caroline (Forsberg) and her classmate Anthony (Santiago), who has arrived requiring help on a poetry assignment.
Forsberg was most recently seen in Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends on Broadway. Santiago made his Broadway debut as Younger Noah in The Notebook.
The design team includes Beowulf Boritt (scenic), Kara Harmon (costumes), Japhy Weideman (lighting), Elisabeth Weidner (sound), and Stefania Bulbarella (projections).
The production team includes Sujin Kim-Ramsey (music director), Steph Paul (movement director), Alicia Rodis (intimacy coordinator), and Julie Felise Dubiner (dramaturg). Becky Reed serves as production stage manager.
