Heidi Schreck's What the Constitution Means to Me Extends

New York Theatre Workshop has announced an extension for What the Constitution Means to Me by two-time Obie Award winner Heidi Schreck and directed by Obie Award winner Oliver Butler. Originally scheduled to play its final performance on October 21, What the Constitution Means to Me will now play additional performances through October 28. The production began previews on September 12 and will open September 30.

In What the Constitution Means to Me, it's 1989 and "Heidi is trying to earn enough money to go to college by giving speeches about the Constitution in American Legion Halls across the country. When she loses the first round to Becky Dobbins because her speech isn't personal enough, she decides to go deep. Starting with her great-great-grandmother, a mail-order bride who died of 'melancholia,' she traces the effects of a single sentence of the Ninth Amendment on generations of women in her family — and on the violent men they married."

In addition to Schreck, the production features Mike Iveson, and New York City high school students Rosdely Ciprian and Thursday Williams. It boasts scenic design by Rachel Hauck (Hadestown), costume design by Michael Krass (Hadestown), lighting design by Jen Schriever (Eclipsed), and sound design by Sinan Zafar (Hamlet).
