Rising Hollywood star Haylie Duff will make her Broadway debut as Tracy Turnblad’s arch-nemesis Amber Von Tussle in Hairspray on July 18 at the Neil Simon Theatre.

Duff is the latest in a line of young stars to hit Broadway in Hairspray, following in the footsteps of American Idol runner-up Diana DeGarmo, who recently did a stint as Penny Pingleton. DeGarmo will rejoin the company on September 8. The current cast also includes R&B singer Tevin Campbell as Seaweed Stubbs.

In other Hairspray casting news, Lisa Jolley will step into the roles of Prudy Pingleton, Gym Teacher, and Matron on July 4; and Aaron Tveit, who played Link Larkin on tour, will take over that role on Broadway on July 18, the same day that Duff joins the cast. Recent additions to the cast include Blake Hammond as Edna Turnblad, Isabel Keating as Velma Von Tussle, and Caissie Levy as Penny Pingleton.

Haylie Duff has been acting professionally since the age of 12, getting her start in the 1997 miniseries True Women. She has also had recurring roles on Boston Public, Lizzie McGuire, Joan of Arcadia, and 7th Heaven. Among her film credits are a stand-out role in Napoleon Dynamite. A singer/songwriter, she contributed to her sister Hillary Duff’s albums, and the two have performed together. This summer, both sisters will appear in the movie Material Girls.

Hairspray is the winner of eight Tony Awards. The current cast of the long-running show includes Shannon Durig as Tracy Turnblad, Stephen DeRosa as Wilbur Turnblad, Andrew Rannells as Link Larkin, Becky Gulsvig as Amber Von Tussle, and Darlene Love as Motormouth Maybelle.
