Producer Ken Davenport has obtained the Broadway stage rights to the life story of the American singer, songwriter, actor, and activist Harry Belafonte.

Recipient of Academy, Grammy, Emmy, and Tony Awards, Belafonte is the singer of the hits "Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)" and "Jump in the Line," and was one of Martin Luther King Jr.'s confidants during the civil rights movement.

"The live theater opened up so many worlds for me as a young man," Belafonte said in a statement. "From the moment I saw professional actors on stage, I knew I could find a way forward in life as a performer and as an activist…It brings me great joy that my story will now become a stage production that I hope will inspire audiences to follow their own dreams."

Additional information is still to be announced.
