Documentary Arts and Connecting Cultures will present a new off-Broadway production of the musical Texas in Paris. Written by Alan Govenar and based on true events, the musical will run January 14-February 28, with an official opening on January 21, at the Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at the Pershing Square Signature Center.

Directed by Akin Babatundé, Texas in Paris reunites Hadestown co-stars Tony Award winner Lillias White and Reeve Carney. White plays Osceola Mays and Carney plays John Burrus.

In the musical, two very different people who have never met, a Black nanny singing a cappella spirituals and a white cowboy performing country hymns and songs of the Old West, are invited to Paris to bring the music of the “real Texas” to a French audience.

The production features scenic design by Jim Morgan, costume design by Christopher Vergara, lighting design by Alan C. Edwards, music supervision and arrangements by Amy Jones, sound design by Jon Weston, wig and make-up design by Jared Janas, projection design by Jason Johnson-Spinos, and community outreach by Marcia Pendleton.

Texas in Paris had its off-Broadway premiere at the York Theatre in February, 2015.
