Hadestown Announces Theater, Dates for Broadway Transfer

Anaïs Mitchell’s musical premiered at New York Theatre Workshop in 2016 and currently plays at London’s National Theatre.

Hadestown, the acclaimed new musical by celebrated singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell, will transfer this spring to Broadway's Walter Kerr Theatre, with previews beginning Friday, March 22 ahead of a Wednesday, April 17 opening night. Casting will be announced shortly.

Hadestown was developed with and is directed by Tony Award nominee Rachel Chavkin. The creative team will feature Rachel Hauck (set design), Michael Krass (costume design), Bradley King (lighting design), Nevin Steinberg (sound design), David Neumann (choreography), Liam Robinson (music direction and vocal arrangements), and Michael Chorney and Todd Sickafoose (arrangements and orchestrations).

Hadestown follows Orpheus and his mythical quest to overcome Hades and regain the favor of his one true love, Eurydice. After premiering at New York Theatre Workshop in May 2016, Hadestown received its Canadian premiere at the Citadel Theatre, Edmonton in November 2017. Hadestown was developed with funding from the Eli and Edythe Broad Stage at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center and was further developed by The Ground Floor at Berkeley Repertory Theatre. Hadestown is coconceived by Ben t. Matchstick. The musical is currently running at London's National Theatre.
