Gabriel Kahane, Rebecca Luker, Marin Mazzie, Nico Muhly, Suzanne Vega Set for River To River Festival

Programming has been announced for the River To River Festival, Lower Manhattan’s free annual summer arts festival which will take place seven days a week from June 17 through July 15. It will feature music, dance, film, theater, visual art, ideas, experiences and family programs at locations throughout Downtown New York. All events are free and open to the public.

Among the highlights are the Philip Glass Ensemble performing a retrospective of the composer’s work (June 20); Chekov’s Three Sisters, directed by Maureen Towey (June 22); the previously reported Oceanic Verses by Paola Prestini and Donna Di Novelli (June 25); Poets House’s Poetic City with Suzanne Vega & Gabriel Kahane featuring poets Tina Chang and Paolo Javier (June 26); New York Classical Theatre’s production of Twelfth Night (June 26-July 22); and Company SJ’s production of Samuel Beckett’s Act Without Words II, directed by Sarah Jane Scaife and featuring Raymond Keane and Bryan Burroughs (June 26-29).

Also included will be writer/director Richard Maxwell‘s Showcase featuring Jay Smith and Bob Feldman (June 27-29); Maria Hassabi’s exploration of the audience-performer relationship Show (June 28-July 1); Julian Wachner conducting the Trinity Choir in Composer Portrait: The Choral Music of Nico Muhly (July 1); The Bridge to Broadway starring Rebecca Luker, Marin Mazzie, Gretchen Parlato, Sachal Vasandani and Tia Fuller (July 2); The Saints Tour by playwright Molly Rice, directed by Maureen Towey (July 8-12); New York comedy group Improv Everywhere (July 15); and a new multimedia staging of John Cage’s Song Books by Alarm Will sound (July 15).
