Full casting has been announced for Steppenwolf Theatre’s world premiere of Tracy Letts’ Superior Donuts, June 19-August 17, with an opening set for June 29. Tina Landau will direct.
The play concerns Franco Wicks, a young black teenager, who wants to change the decrepit donut shop — where he is the only employee — for the better. Letts’ other plays include August: Osage County, The Man from Nebraska, Bug, and Killer Joe.
As previously announced, the production will star Jon Hill, James Vincent Meredith, Michael McKean, and Yasen Peyankov. The cast will also include Jane Alderman, Kate Buddeke, Cliff Chamberlain, Michael Garvey, and Robert Maffia.
The creative team includes Loy Arcenas (sets), Ana Kuzmanic (costumes), Christopher Akerlind (lights), and Rob Milburn and Michael Bodeen (original music and sound).
Landau, a longtime member of Steppenwolf, directed the Broadway revival of Bells Are Ringing. Her many other directing credits include Floyd Collins, Miracle Brothers, Iphigenia 2.0, Time of Your Life, and Seattle Rep’s current production of The Cure at Troy.
