Full cast and creative team have been announced for the Bay Street Theatre’s world premiere production of Simeon’s Gift, a new musical adapted from the children’s picture book of the same title by Julie Andrews and her daughter, Emma Walton Hamilton, to run November 23-25.
The show, which will feature music by Ian Fraser and lyrics by John Bucchino. will be directed by Marcia Milgrom Dodge. The cast will include Marie-France Arcilla, Mitch McCarrell, Trista Moldovan, Christopher Pinella, and John Scherer, with recorded narration provided by Andrews. The creative team includes Gary Hygom (sets), Greg Wilson (costumes), Michael Barcys (lighting), Tony Melfa (sound), and Scott Kelcik (projections).
The story focuses on Simeon (Pinella), a humble musician who sets out to improve his craft, risking the loss of all that is important to him, including the love of his beautiful Sorrel (Arcilla). The journey brings many discoveries, but the scope of choices becomes overwhelming and he turns for home. On his way back, he experiences a series of wondrous events that lead him to the discovery of his own true self and the glorious gifts he has to offer.
