The 1999 remake of ”Annie” featured Cumming as Rooster and Chenoweth as Lily.
It was announced this week that Broadway favorites Kristin Chenoweth and Alan Cumming will host the 69th Annual Tony Awards on June 7 at Radio City Music Hall. The Tony Award winners have both starred on Broadway this season, with Cumming returning to the role of Emcee in Cabaret and Chenoweth playing Lily Garland in On the Twentieth Century. But as we look forward to what is sure to be an adorable cohosting extravaganza, we're especially remembering another Lily played by Chenoweth: Lily St. Regis (named for the hotel) of Annie.
In the musical's 1999 Disney made-for-television version Chenoweth played Lily, a gold-digging ditz, opposite Cumming as Rooster, an opportunistic low-life. Here's hoping a reprisal of the duo's song "Easy Street" will find its way into the June 7 telecast — with a cameo by Kathy Bates, of course!
