Last night, Ellen Greene resurrected her iconic performance as down-on-her-luck bleached-blonde Audrey for an Encores! production of Little Shop of Horrors at New York City Center. It's been over 30 years since she first slipped on that little black dress and leopard print sling, but neither Greene's vocal cords nor her eccentric personality have aged a day. In 1987 when she paid a visit to Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show, she was already a seasoned veteran of the offbeat musical and was celebrating the release of its hit film adaptation. Carson didn't quite get the hang of the actress' idiosyncracies during their few minutes of conversation, but after she belted out her famous rendition of "Suddenly Seymour," the host's heart was hers.
