The pop star plays Roxie Hart in Kander and Ebb’s classic musical.
The first production photos have been released of Brandy Norwood's Broadway debut as Roxie Hart in the long-running musical Chicago. The Grammy-winning pop singer will continue her run at the Ambassador Theatre through June 21, performing opposite Chicago veteran Amra-Faye Wright, who plays Velma Kelly.
Featuring classic tunes by John Kander and Fred Ebb, Chicago tells the story of a nightclub dancer who murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media, and her rival cellmate by hiring Chicago's slickest criminal lawyer to transform her crime into a barrage of sensational headlines.
The current revival production opened November 14, 1996, at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. In addition to Norwood and Wright, the cast stars Raymond Bokhour (Amos Hart), John Dossett (Billy Flynn), and NaTasha Yvette Williams (Matron Mama Morton).
