
Fabrizio Melano will direct Francis Poulenc’s Dialogues Des Carmelites, at Juilliard’s Peter Jay Sharp Theater (155 West 65th Street), April 21-25. Anne Manson will conduct.
Featuring a libretto by Georges Bernanos, the opera is based on the true story of the martyrdom of the Sisters of Compiègne during the French Revolution. It will be sung in French with English supertitles.
The cast will feature singers from Juilliard Opera and the Juilliard Orchestra, including Tharanga Goonetilleke (Blanche de la Force), Paul Appleby (Chevalier de la Force), Lacey Jo Benter (Madame de Croissy), Emalie Savoy (Madame Lidoine), Renée Tatum (Mother Marie of the Incarnation), Haeran Hong (Sister Constance), Timothy Beenken (Marquis de la Force), Carla Jablonski (Mother Jeanne), Naomi O’Connell (Sister Mathilde), Javier Ernesto Bernardo (The Chaplain), Daniel Curran (First Commissary), Drew Santini (First Officer), Adam Richardson (M. Javelinot), Adrian Rosas (Second Commissary), Andreas Aroditis (Jailer), and Timothy McDevitt (Thierry).
The production will feature set design by Donald Eastman with costumes by Andrea Hood and lighting by Jane Cox.
Melano is an established figure on the international opera scene, with a long-standing relationship with the Metropolitan Opera as well as directing new productions for Lyric Opera of Chicago, New York City Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Washington National Opera, and the Opera Company of Philadelphia.
