En Garde Arts' 40th Anniversary Season Will Include New Works By Anne Bogart and Charles L. Mee

En Garde Arts, a company known for site-specific theater, announced its 40th anniversary season, celebrating its origins with new works from Anne Bogart and Charles L. Mee—two artists at the heart of En Garde Arts’ history.

The season will kick off with Prelude (October 13-15), written by Charles L. Mee and adapted and directed by Anne Bogart, part of BAM’s Next Wave 2026. The large-scale, free outdoor performance on the plaza at 300 Ashland Place features original music by the Lazours and costume designs by Machine Dazzle. Set against the rhythms of New York City, Prelude invites audiences to witness fleeting encounters and moments of connection that illuminate what it means to be alive together and in love in New York City.

The season will conclude with the full-length world premiere work by Mee and Bogart, Days to Remember Forever. Co-presented by En Garde Arts and La MaMa (and, like Prelude, written by Mee and adapted and directed by Bogart, with music by the Lazours and costumes by Machine Dazzle), the play is a portrait of an artist forged in the crucible of illness on a voyage from monotony into wonder.

Director Seth Bockley will return to En Garde Arts with The Matter of the Disappearance of Michael Anthony Smith, Jr. (December 2-19), about the aftermath of the war in Afghanistan, written by Bill Martin.
