Taking Over, written and performed by Danny Hoch, will receive a two week extension on Berkeley Rep’s Thrust Stage, with a new closing date of February 24.
In the solo show, Hoch captures the characters of his New York neighborhood and the ethnic and economic tensions. His cast of characters transforms across the boundaries of race, age, and gender, depicting a city in transition.
Hoch is the author of Till the Break of Dawn and is well known for his solo performances Some People and Jails, Hospitals & Hip-Hop. He founded the Hip-Hop Theater Festival in 2000, and he appears annually in New York, Chicago, Washington D.C., San Francisco, and Oakland. He is the recipient of two Obie Awards, an NEA Solo Theatre Fellowship, Sundance Writers Fellowship, CalArts/Alpert Award in Theatre, and a Tennessee Williams Fellowship.
