Cutting Ball Announces Festival Schedule for Risk is This.

Cutting Ball Theater is set to close its 2011-2012 season with Risk is This.The Cutting Ball New Experimental Plays Festival, June 8-July 14. Dedicated to experimental works for the stage, the free festival will feature two new works and five new translations in staged readings.

The festival will begin with two world premieres: Aulis: an Act of Nihilism in One Long Act (June 8-9), a post-modern take on Euripides’ Iphigenia in Aulis by Christopher Chen, and Gizmo (June 15-16), a play that wrestles with the topic of technology today, by Anthony Clarvoe. Jessica Holt will direct Aulis, and Rob Melrose will direct Gizmo.

Then, the festival will present five workshops of August Strindberg’s Chamber Plays in new translations by Paul Walsh and directed by Rob Melrose entitled Strindberg Cycle: The Chamber Plays in Rep. The cycle includes the story of a strange encounter between a student and an old man The Ghost Sonata (June 29-30); The Pelican and The Black Glove (July 6-7) , which tell of a woman plotting to steal her children’s inheritance and an old man who finds a mysterious black glove; and Storm and Burned House (July 13-14), about an old man haunted by his past and a man seeking revenge against his brother.
