| New York City |

August 3, 2004

The complete schedule for the Imagine Festival of Arts, Issues, and Ideas, to be held in New York from August 28 through September 2 in response to the Republican National Convention, has been posted online. The festival will utilize visual art, music, dance, drama, film, comedy, poetry, and street theater to tackle critical issues that its organizers feel have been ignored by both the Republican and Democratic parties. Participating in some of the festival’s more than 200 events will be such celebrities as Margaret Cho, John Sayles, Marisa Tomei, and Robert Altman.

Scheduled theater highlights of the Festival include a staged reading of Elektra starring Tomei, Kathleen Chalfant, David Strathairn, Laila Robbins, and Heather Tom; an evening exploring the power of documentary theater, including a presentation of Victoria Brittain and Gillian Slova’s Guantanamo and a panel discussion hosted by Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen (The Exonerated); and The Thalia Follies, an evening of political satire with original sketches by E.L. Doctorow, Roy Blount, Calvin Trillin, and Mary Gordon.

The full schedule of festival events may be found at the website www.nyamerica.org.
