Complete casting has been announced for the new musical version of Elmer Rice’s Adding Machine, featuring a score by Joshua Schmidt and a libretto by Jason Loewith and Schmidt, which will receive its New York premiere at the Minetta Lane Theatre, beginning February 7. The production, to be directed by David Cromer, will officially open on February 25.
Based on Rice’s 1923 expressionist play, the show tells the story of Mr. Zero, a nameless cog in American business, as he journeys through life, death, and an afterlife romance in the Elysian Fields. The musical was previously presented by Next Theatre Company in Evanston, Illinois last season, and received five Joseph Jefferson Award nominations including Best New Musical.
The cast will include Joel Hatch as ‘Mr. Zero,’ Cyrilla Baer as his wife ‘Mrs. Zero’ and Amy Warren as his devoted co-worker ‘Miss Devore,’ all of whom are reprising their roles from the original production, along with Joe Farrell as “Shrdlu,” Jeff Still as “Boxer/Fixer/Charles,” Adinah Alexander as “Mrs. Two,” Niffer Clarke as “Mrs. One,” and Daniel Marcus as “Mr. One.”
The design team will feature Takeshi Kata (set), Kristine Knanishu (costumes), Keith Parham (lighting), Peter Flaherty (projections), and Tony Smolenski (sound).
