Check Out the First Image of Santino Fontana in Tootsie

The Broadway-bound production will begin performances in Chicago next year.

The new musical comedy Tootsie has released a first look at its star, Tony nominee Santino Fontana, as the lead character of Michael Dorsey. Tootsie begins previews on Broadway on March 29, 2019, and will open on April 23, 2019, at the Marquis Theatre.

The production had its world premiere at Broadway In Chicago's Cadillac Palace Theatre, running September 11-October 14, with an official opening on September 30.

Directed by eight-time Tony nominee Scott Ellis (She Loves Me), Tootsie features an original score by Tony winner David Yazbek (The Band's Visit), a book by Robert Horn (13), choreography by Tony nominee Denis Jones (Holiday Inn), and musical direction by Andrea Grody (The Band's Visit).

Tootsie tells the story of a talented but difficult actor who struggles to find work until an audacious, desperate stunt lands him the role of a lifetime. The Chicago cast was led by Fontana (Cinderella) as Michael Dorsey, Lilli Cooper (SpongeBob SquarePants) as Julie Nichols, Tony nominee Sarah Stiles (Hand to God) as Sandy Lester, John Behlmann (Significant Other) as Max Van Horn, Andy Grotelueschen (Cyrano de Bergerac) as Jeff Slater, Julie Halston (On the Town) as Rita Marshall, Tony winner Michael McGrath (She Loves Me) as Stan Fields, and Tony nominee Reg Rogers (The Iceman Cometh) as Ron Carlisle.

Rounding out the company were Sissy Bell, Barry Busby, Paula Leggett Chase, Britney Coleman, Leslie Donna Flesner, Jenifer Foote, John Arthur Greene, Drew King, Jeff Kready, Harris Milgrim, Adam Monley, Shina Ann Morris, James Moye, Katerina Papacostas, Diana Vaden, and Anthony Wayne.

The design team included scenic design by David Rockwell, costume design by William Ivey Long, lighting design by Donald Holder, sound design by Brian Ronan, hair and wig design by Paul Huntley, make-up design by Angelina Avallone.
