Bess Wohl’s Tony-winning play is directed by Whitney White.

The cast and creative team has been announced for the Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Studio Theatre, and Geffen Playhouse co-production of Bess Wohl’s Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning play Liberation.
Directed by the play’s Broadway director, Tony Award nominee Whitney White, Liberation will have its west coast premiere October 23-November 29, with an opening night on October 28, at Berkeley Rep’s Roda Theatre. The production will run January 27-February 28 at Geffen Playhouse and in the spring at Studio Theatre in Washington, DC.
In 1970s Ohio, Lizzie has gathered a group of women in a rec center basement to change their lives and maybe the world. Decades later, Lizzie’s daughter delves into her mother’s history to find answers to the feminist revolution’s unanswered questions.
The cast features Felicia Curry as Celeste, Britt Faulkner as Dora, Katie Lowes as Lizzie, Irene Sofia Lucio as Isidora, Gunnar Manchester as Bill, Tony Award nominee Mary Gordon Murray as Margie, Veronica Otim as Joanna, and Evelyn Spahr as Susan. Understudies include Rolanda Bell, Nancy Carlin, Rachel Clausen, and Jeremy Kahn.
The creative team includes scenic designer David Zinn, costume designer Qween Jean, lighting designer Cha See, sound designer Palmer Hefferan, wigs and hair designer Nikiya Mathis, voice and dialect coach Gigi Buffington, and intimacy consultant Kelsey Rainwater.
