Hines’ new stage show explores his life and career.
Legendary dancer Maurice Hines celebrated the opening night of his new stage show, Tappin' Thru Life, on January 11. Directed by Jeff Calhoun, the show began performances on December 23 at New World Stages.
Hines leads the cast of the musical revue, which features the all-female Diva Jazz Orchestra, led by drummer Sherrie Maricle, the tap-dancing brothers Leo and John Manzari, and a rotating cast of up-and-coming tappers Luke Spring, Dario Natarelli, and sisters Julia and Devin Ruth.
Guests at the opening-night festivities included Broadway favorites Tommy Tune, Leslie Uggams, Michele Lee, and many more. Check out TheaterMania's photos in the gallery below.
The musical comes to New York following a 2013 coproduction with Arena Stage and Alliance Theatre. The production features set design by Tobin Ost, sound design by Michael Hahn, lighting design by Michael Gilliam, and projection design by Darrel Maloney.
