Conor McPherson’s The Seafarer will close on March 30 at the Booth Theatre, having played 19 previews and 113 regular performances. The production is directed by the author.
The show, which stars Ciaran Hinds, Conleth Hill, Sean Mahon, David Morse, and Jim Norton, is set in Dublin on Christmas Eve, where Sharky (Morse) has returned to look after his irascible, aging brother (Norton) who’s recently gone blind. Old drinking buddies Ivan (Hill) and Nicky (Mahon) are holed up at the house too, hoping to play some cards. But with the arrival of a stranger (Hinds) from the distant past, the stakes are raised ever higher.
TheaterMania’s review said: “Unfortunately, the play — which debuted at London’s National Theater — rambles on a bit too long in act two and doesn’t deliver quite enough of a payoff. Nonetheless, The Seafarer is one of the author’s most entertaining works — and without question, his most conventional one.”
