Broadway veteran Michelle Williams (Cabaret) is set to star in a new film opposite Matthew McConaughey, according to Variety. Gold, a Weinstein Co. film, is inspired by the 1993 Bre-X Minerals mining scandal.
Michelle Williams and Matthew McConaughey will play husband and wife, and Edgar Ramirez has also been announced to star. Stephen Gaghan will direct, with Teddy Schwarzman’s Black Bear Pictures financing. The film, written by Patrick Massett and John Zinman, plans to begin filming this summer.
Producers are Schwarzman, Michael Nozik's Hwy61, Massett, Zinman, and McConaughey. Paul Haggis and Richard Middleton will executive-produce.
Michelle Williams made her Broadway debut as Sally Bowles in the 2014 remounting of Sam Mendes and Rob Marshall's Tony-winning production of Cabaret at Roundabout Theatre Company's Studio 54. Her run lasted from March 21-November 9.
