Park Avenue Armory announced the world premiere of Grass, a new co-commission from Armory artist-in-residence and Pulitzer Prize- and Tony-winning playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, in partnership with National Black Theatre. Written for the Armory’s Wade Thompson Drill Hall, Grass will run February 19–March 28.

Equal parts fantasia, memory play, and morality drama, Grass follows a mother and son on a fantastical, picaresque road trip through the American South.

Grass reunites Jacobs-Jenkins with creative team members from 2014’s Obie Award-winning production of An Octoroon, with direction by Obie Award winner Sarah Benson and set design by Tony Award winner Mimi Lien.

The creative team also includes lighting designers Jane Cox and Stacey Derosier, sound designer Bray Poor, special effects designer Jeremy Chernick, costume designer Enver Chakartash, and wig and makeup designer Cookie Jordan.

Casting and additional details will be announced this fall.
