The actor-comedian will memorialize his longtime friend, who died earlier this month.
Robin Williams will receive a special tribute at this year's Emmy Awards, led by his longtime friend and colleague Billy Crystal. This special segment will be in addition to the traditional "In Memorium" sequence that pays tribute those the television community lost in the past year.
Williams died on August 11 at the age of 63. He made his Broadway debut in 2002 in the comedy show Robin Williams: Live on Broadway and returned in 2011 to star in Rajiv Joseph's play Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo. Williams also famously voiced the role of the Genie in Disney's 1992 animated film Aladdin, which was adapted for the Broadway stage this past season. Among his many other screen credits are Dead Poet's Society, Flubber, Good Will Hunting, Jack, The Birdcage, and Patch Adams.
Crystal recently returned to Broadway in a limited engagement of his Tony-winning solo show, 700 Sundays. His film appearances include Analyze This, When Harry Met Sally, City Slickers, The Princess Bride, and My Giant. He and Williams appeared together in the film Father's Day.
The 2014 Emmy Awards will be held Monday, August 25, and telecast on NBC.
