The Princess Grace Foundation has announced the availability of applications for the 2003 Princess Grace Awards in Theatre and Playwriting.

Princess Grace Awards take the form of apprentices, fellowships, or scholarships, to help identify and assist young artists in theater, dance, and film. Candidates are awarded based on the quality of their past work, their future potential, and the award’s appropriateness to the artist’s growth. Over 300 awards have been granted since the foundation’s funding in 1982.

Candidates must be nominated by the deans or department chairmen of professional (nonprofit) theater schools or the artistic director of a theater company. Four special awards comprise the Theatre Awards: The Robert and Gloria Hausman Theatre Award, The Fabergé Theatre Award, the Grace Le Vine Theatre Award, and the Pierre Cardin Theatre Award.

Those interested in the playwriting awards may apply themselves by submitting an unproduced, unpublished play of any length. The winning playwright receives a grant of $7,500; a residency at New Dramatists, Inc. in New York City; the inclusion of their work in the New Dramatists lending library; and representation by licensing agent Samuel French, Inc. (Applications for Playwriting fellowships must be postmarked no later than March 31, 2003.)

All candidates for the awards must be U.S. citizens or have permanent resident status at the time of application. For more information or to request an application, call the foundation at 212-317-1470. Further information is available by logging on to the foundation’s website, www.pgfusa.com, or by e-mailing tboshak@pgfusa.com.
