The Second Stage Uptown production of Bess Wohl's American Hero has extended its run at the McGinn/Cazale Theatre through June 15. The production, directed by Tony nominee Leigh Silverman, officially opens on May 22.
American Hero follows three up-and-coming "sandwich artists" — a teenager, a single mom, and a downsized refugee from corporate banking — at a toasted-sub franchise as their shot at the American dream is interrupted by a series of strange events. The three form an unlikely alliance in their post-recession world, setting the stage for Wohl's dark comedy about "life, liberty, and the pursuit of sandwiches."
The company includes Ari Graynor (The Performers), Daoud Heidami (Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo), Jerry O'Connell (Seminar), and Erin Wilhelmi (The Great God Pan). The production features scenic design by Dane Laffrey, costumes by Clint Ramos, lighting design by Jen Schriever, and sound design by Jill BC Du Boff.
