Amélie Brings Its Imaginative Story to the Berkeley Repertory Theatre Stage

Samantha Barks takes on the title role in a new musical version of the beloved French film.

Berkeley Repertory Theatre has released the first set of production photos for its upcoming world premiere of Amélie, A New Musical, adapted from the Academy Award-nominated film. The production stars Samantha Barks, best known for her performance as Éponine in the film adaptation of Les Misérables.

Written by Tony nominee Craig Lucas (An American in Paris), Amélie features music by Daniel Messé of the acclaimed band Hem with lyrics by Nathan Tysen and Messé. The production is directed by Tony winner Pam MacKinnon.

In the show, Amélie, a shy but charming girl, sets out on a mission to create moments of joy and wonder for those around her by secretly orchestrating meet-ups between old friends and potential love matches, and even by giving a man a memento that allows him to relive his childhood.

In addition to Barks, the cast features David Andino (Blind Beggar/Garden Gnome), Randy Blair (Hipolito), Adam Chanler-Berat (Nino), Alison Cimmet (Amandine/Philomene), Savvy Crawford (Young Amélie), Carla Duren (Gina), John Hickok (Raphael/Bretodeaux), Alyse Alan Louis (Georgette), Shannon O’Boyle (Swing), Maria-Christina Oliveras (Suzanne), Paul Whitty (Joseph), Perry Sherman (Lucien), Jacob Keith Watson (Swing), and Tony Sheldon (Dufayel/Collignon).
