Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys will compose original music for the Broadway production of Lydia R. Diamond’s Stick Fly. As previously reported, Keys is also one of the producers of the show, which will begin previews on November 18, in anticipation of an official opening on December 8.

Keys’ many songs include “Fallin” and “Empire State of Mind.” Among her albums are her debut Songs in A Minor, The Diary of Alicia Keys, and As I Am. In addition to her work as a recording artist and songwriter, she has also worked as an actress, appearing on such television series as The Cosby Show and Charmed and in such films as The Nanny Diaries and The Secret of Bees.

Directed by Kenny Leon, Stick Fly is a portrait of an upper class African American family vacationing on Martha’s Vineyard and explores parental expectations, sibling rivalry, and issues of class and race. The company will feature, as previously announced, Rosie Benton, Dulé Hill, Mekhi Phifer, Tracie Thoms, Ruben Santiago-Hudson and Condola Rashad.

The creative team will include David Gallo (scenic design), Reggie Ray (costume design), Beverly Emmons (lighting design) and Richard Fitzgerald / Sound Associates (sound design).
