Emmy Award nominee Paul Anthony Stewart (Fiddler on the Roof, As the World Turns), Bob Ari (Frost/Nixon) and Lori Welner (A Catered Affair have been cast in a revival of Garson Kanin’s Dreyfus in Rehearsal, to play the Beckett Theatre, July 30-August 7. Chad Larabee will direct.
The play, which Kanin adapted from a piece by Jean-Claude Grumberg, kicks off a year-long celebration of playwright and director Kanin’s work. Dreyfus follows a group of young amateur actors rehearsing a play about Alfred Dreyfus, a French Military Officer who suffered the injustice of religious persecution. As they work (and obsess about their personal lives), they are unaware that their existence is about to be shaken as anti-Semitism grows around them.
The cast will also include Ari Butler, Holly Ann Butler, Lee Zarrett, Daniel Pollack, Teddy Bergman, and Timothy Sekk. The creative team includes Ken Goldstein (set design); David Zyla (costume design); Cory Pattak (lighting design); Matt Gould (original music); and Joe Travers (fight direction).
Kanin is perhaps best known for writing plays such as Born Yesterday and films like Adam’s Rib and for directing such seminal productions as The Diary of Anne Frank. Other events in the year-long celebration of his works will include stagings of The Rat Race and Peccadillo.
