South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and Tony Award winner Robert Lopez’s new musical comedy The Book of Mormon will begin previews at Broadway’s Eugene O’Neill Theatre on February 24, in anticipation of a March 24 opening.
The show will be co-directed by Parker and Tony Award nominee Casey Nicholaw, who will choreograph the production. Casting and additional creative team information will be announced at a later date.
Parker and Stone have won four Emmy Awards and a Peabody Award for South Park. Their credits also include the films, South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut and Team America: World Police. Parker received an Academy Award nomination for Best Song for his music and lyrics for “Blame Canada.”
Lopez is co-creator, composer and lyricist for Avenue Q, which won 2004 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Score and received a Grammy nomination for its Original Cast Album.
