Valerie Harper to Launch Looped National Tour at Bushnell Theatre
Matthew Lombardo’s Looped, starring Valerie Harper as film legend Tallulah Bankhead, will play the Bushnell Theatre in Hartford, Connecticut, January 24-February 6, in advance of a national tour. The production will be directed by Rob Ruggiero. Additional casting and tour dates will be announced shortly.
The play takes place in a sound studio in 1965 to which Bankhead has been summoned to re-record (or “loop”) one line of dialogue for what would be her last film, Die, Die My Darling. However, Bankhead arrives for the session inebriated and ends up in a showdown with an uptight and conservative sound editor.
The play debuted in 2008 at the Pasadena Playhouse and ran in 2010 at Broadway’s Lyceum Theatre, earning Harper a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Play.
The creative team includes Adrian W. Jones (scenic design), William Ivey Long (costume design), Michael Gilliam (lighting design), and Michael Hooker (sound design).
