Tommy Tune and Ben Vereen to Celebrate 80 Years of Chita Rivera at Chita: A Legendary Celebration
The one-night-only concert, benefiting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, will revisit the milestones of Rivera's legendary career.
On Monday, October 7, the August Wilson Theatre (home of Jersey Boys) will host a special one-night-only benefit concert, Chita: A Legendary Celebration, honoring the career of two-time Tony-winning Broadway icon Chita Rivera (The Mystery of Edwin Drood) in the year of her 80th birthday. Nine-time Tony-winning choreographer/director/performer Tommy Tune (The Will Rogers Follies) and Tony-winning performer Ben Vereen (Pippin) will join Rivera onstage for the evening of performances.
Chita: A Legendary Celebration is written by Tony winner Terrence McNally (Master Class) and directed by multiple-Tony nominee Graciela Daniele (Pal Joey), with music direction by Michael Croiter. The concert will revisit tunes from the Broadway shows that best exemplify Rivera's career, including Kander and Ebb's Chicago and Kiss of the Spider Woman, West Side Story, and Bye Bye Birdie. Also planning to join her in the musical celebration are a number of dancers from Kiss of the Spider Woman and Chita Rivera: The Dancer's Life, including Richard Amaro, Brad Bradley, Lloyd Culbreath, Raymond del Barrio, Robert Montano, and Alex Sanchez. Kyle Taylor Parker and Nathan Peck from Broadway's Tony-winning Best Musical Kinky Boots will perform as well.
The concert is produced by and will benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. For tickets and more information, click here.
