Tickets are now on sale to the general public for The Nance, a new play by Tony nominated playwright Douglas Carter Beane. Directed by three-time Tony winner Jack O'Brien, the production will begin previews at the Lyceum Theatre on March 21, with an opening night set for April 15. The cast will feature a number of Broadway veterans including former Producers cast-mates Cady Huffman and two-time Tony winner Nathan Lane as well as Andrèa Burns (In The Heights), Jenni Barber (The Performers), Lewis J. Stadlen (The People in the Picture) and Jonny Orsini (An Early History of Fire), who will be making his Broadway debut.

The Nance tells the story of Chauncy Miles (Lane), a headline "nance" performer, which, in the culture of 1930s burlesque, was a term used to describe a stereotypically camp homosexual male character. Though these characters were usually portrayed by straight men, Miles is in fact homosexual. By weaving together burlesque sketches and a dramatic script, Beane tells the story of a gay man forced to lead a secret life in a world where it is easy to play gay, yet dangerous to be gay.

The production's design team will include sets by John Lee Beatty, costumes by Ann Roth, lighting by Japhy Weideman, sound by Leon Rothenberg, choreography by Joey Pizzi and original music and arrangements by Glen Kelly.
