Songwriter Benjamin Scheuer will bring his new autobiographical solo musical, The Lion, to Manhattan Theatre Club's The Studio at Stage II this summer.

Directed by Sean Daniels, The Lion is set to begin performances Tuesday, June 10, with an opening night set for June 26. A story of love, loss, family loyalty, and the power of music, the piece comes to New York after an award-winning run at the 2013 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Scheuer is the recipient of the 2013 ASCAP Cole Porter Songwriting Award and is the leader of the band Escapist Papers.

The music video for the title song of The Lion, directed by Peter Baynton, premiered at the 2013 Annecy Film Festival in France, where it won the Special Jury Award for Best Commissioned Film. It also won Best Music Video and Best Animated Video at London's 2013 Crystal Palace International Film Festival. You can watch it by clicking here.
