It's "The Final Countdown": Rock of Ages Will Play Its Last Broadway Performance
The long-running rock musical is set to close up shop at the Helen Hayes Theatre.
The five-time Tony Award-nominated Rock of Ages has announced that it will play its final performance on January 18 after 22 previews and 2,328 Broadway performances. Rock of Ages will be the 27th-longest-running show in Broadway history.
Rock of Ages premiered off-Broadway at New World Stages on October 16, 2008. It opened at Broadway's Brooks Atkinson Theatre on April 7, 2009, and later transferred to the Helen Hayes on March 24, 2011. The production is directed by Kristin Hanggi and features choreography by Kelly Devine.
Written by Chris D'Arienzo, Rock of Ages follows Drew, a young rocker with the dream of receiving his big break, and Sherri, the small-town girl with whom he falls in love while working at a legendary Hollywood rock club facing its imminent destruction. The score comprises hits by Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, and more. A film version was released in 2012.
The original Broadway cast of Rock of Ages was led by Constantine Maroulis, who rejoined the company on August 4, 2014.
