Tony Award winner Leslie Uggams opened her new show Uptown Downtown at the Café Carlyle on Tuesday, March 30.
In the show, directed by Michael Bush, Uggams performs songs from her legendary career and the Great American Songbook, including “My Own Morning,” “Summertime,” “Hello, Young Lovers, “If He Walked Into My Life,” and “Stormy Weather,” among others.
Celebrities who attended the show’s opening night included Karen Akers, Chuck Cooper, Jamie deRoy, Penny Fuller, Capathia Jenkins, Daniel Reichard, Mo Rocca, and Tommy Tune.
Uggams won the Tony Award for her performance in Hallelujah, Baby! and has also been seen on Broadway in Anything Goes, Blues in the Night, and On Golden Pond. She received an Emmy Award for her work in Roots. On May 4, she will receive the MAC Award for Lifetime Achievement.
