New-York Historical Society to Honor Broadway Composers logo

Each Monday evening in March, the New-York Historical Society's American Musicals Project will honor a major Broadway talent in a new series titled "Broadway's Babies: The Second Generation of America's Great Theater Composers."

The series will include programs dedicated to the songs of Harold Rome (March 1), Harold Arlen (March 8), and Jule Styne (March 15). In addition, a gala benefit celebrating the work of Cy Coleman will be held on March 22; Coleman himself will host the event and Dee Hoty, who appeared in the Broadway productions of the composer's City of Angels and The Will Rogers Follies, will perform.

The Rome program will be hosted by playwright John Weidman (Assassins, Pacific Overtures) and will feature performers Martin Vidnovic, Kim Crosby, and Nancy Anderson. The Styne program will be co-hosted by Phyllis Newman and musical theater historian Max Wilk, with Victoria Clark among the featured performers. Additional participants will be announced soon.

All performances will be at the New-York Historical Society, 2 West 77th Street at Central Park West. Tickets are available for individual concerts, the series of three concerts not including the gala, or for all four performances. They may be purchased by calling 212-485-9269, by sending an e-mail to [email protected], or through For a full schedule of New York Historical Society events, visit
