Tony Award winner Michael Cerveris will star as Juan Perón in the upcoming Broadway revival of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Evita, to play the Marquis Theatre in Spring 2012.

He joins the previously reported Ricky Martin as Che and Elena Roger as Eva. Olivier Award winner Michael Grandage will direct, with choreography by Tony Award winner Rob Ashford.

Evita tells the story of Argentina’s Eva Peron, who used her beauty and charisma to rise meteorically from the slums of Argentina to the presidential mansion as First Lady. She won international acclaim and adoration from her own people as a champion of the poor, while glamour, power and greed made her the world’s first major political celebrity.

Cerveris won a Tony for his performance in Assassins, and was Tony-nominated for his work in The Who’s Tommy, Sweeney Todd, and LoveMusik. He most recently appeared on Broadway in In the Next Room (or The Vibrator Play).
