Michael Ball to Star in UK Hairspray Tour

Olivier Award winner Michael Ball will recreate his portrayal of Edna Turnblad in the hit musical Hairspray for part of the show’s upcoming UK tour. No other casting has been announced.

The tour opens at the Cardiff Millennium Centre, where it runs from March 30 to April 24, before continuing through September 4 to Glasgow, Southampton, Wolverhampton, Leeds, Manchester, and Liverpool, with further dates to be announced. Ball will appear in Glasgow, Southampton and Manchester as well as Cardiff.

Hairspray, which is currently running in the West End, is written by Marc Shaiman, Scott Wittman, Thomas Meehan, and Mark O’Donnell, based on the film by John Waters, and is directed by Jack O’Brien and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell. It features set design by David Rockwell, costume design by William Ivey Long, lighting design by Kenneth Posner, and sound design by Steve C. Kennedy.
