Martha Plimpton Joins Brían O’Byrne and Oliver Platt in Cast of MTC’s Shining City

Martha Plimpton has joined Brían F. O’Byrne and Oliver Platt in the cast of the upcoming Manhattan Theatre Club production of Conor McPherson’s Shining City. Directed by Tony winner Robert Falls, the show will begin preview performances at the Biltmore Theatre on April 13 and is scheduled to open on May 3.

Originally presented at London’s Royal Court Theater to critical acclaim, Shining City is set in Dublin, where a guilt-ridden man named John (Platt) reaches out to Ian, a troubled therapist (O’Byrne), after seeing the ghost of his recently deceased wife. Plimpton will play Neasa, a woman who becomes caught up in Ian’s personal turmoil.

Plimpton was previously seen on Broadway in Sixteen Wounded. Her Off-Broadway credits include The False Servant, Boston Marriage, Flesh and Blood, and Hobson’s Choice for which she won the Obie Award. She has appeared in such films as The Mosquito Coast, Running on Empty, and I Shot Andy Warhol, and she recieved an Emmy Award nomination for her guest starring role on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

O’Byrne won the Tony Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in Frozen and received Tony nominations for his work in Doubt, The Beauty Queen of Leenane, and The Lonesome West. Platt has appeared in stage productions of Twelfth Night, Elliot Loves, and Ubu. The actor is a two-time Emmy Award nominee for Huff and The West Wing. He can currently be seen on the big screen in Casanova, and his previous films include The Ice Harvest, The Three Musketeers, and Indecent Proposal.
