It has just been announced that Priscilla Lopez will replace Anita Gillette in the Signature Theatre Company production of Paula Vogel’s The Oldest Profession. Performances of the show, which were cancelled for most of last week, will resume tomorrow evening; the production’s official opening is still scheduled for September 9.

A Signature statement on the change reads as follows: “Anita Gillette has experienced a family tragedy, and it has been understandably difficult to determine when she might return to the company of The Oldest Profession. Priscilla Lopez has graciously agreed to join the production so that performances of the play can resume as soon as possible. The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Signature Theatre Company are with Anita Gillette during this very difficult time.”

Lopez is best known for originating the role of Diana Morales in the 1975 musical A Chorus Line. Her other Broadway shows include Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Henry, Sweet Henry, Company, Pippin, A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine, Nine, and Anna in the Tropics; she has appeared Off-Broadway in Other People’s Money, Newyorkers, and most recently in Class Mothers ’68.
