The Public Theater has announced the two works that will be produced for its 50th anniversary Shakespeare in the Park season at the Delacorte Theater.

Tony Award nominee Lily Rabe will star as Rosalind in the first offering, Shakespeare’s As You Like It. Daniel Sullivan will direct the romantic comedy, that centers on a young woman who follows her exiled father into the Forest of Arden and is herself followed by the man who loves her. Outside of the realm of the court, and disguised as a boy, Rosalind is able to teach her suitor the meaning of true love.

The creative team for As You Like It will include scenic designer John Lee Beatty, costume designer Jane Greenwood, and lighting designer Natasha Katz, along with Acme Sound Partners, which will provide sound design.

The second offering at the Delacorte will be Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s musical, Into the Woods, to be directed by Timothy Sheader, with co-direction by Liam Steel, who both collaborated on an al fresco production of the musical in London in 2010. Into the Woods combines the classic stories of Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Cinderella, with an original fairy tale about a childless baker and his wife, to explore the meaning of “happily ever after.”

The creative team for Into the Woods will include Beatty and Soutra Gilmour (scenic design), and Emily Rebholz (costume design), along with Katz (lighting design) and Acme Sound Partners (sound design). Steel will also provide movement direction.

Further casting and schedule details will be announced shortly.
