Tony Winners LaChanze and Jason Robert Brown to Perform at SubCulture
Broadway favorite LaChanze (If/Then) has been announced to join composer Jason Robert Brown (Honeymoon in Vegas) in concert at SubCulture on May 15. The event is part of Brown's ongoing residency at the downtown venue.
LaChanze is a Tony Award winner for 2006's The Color Purple, in which she starred as Celie. She also received a Tony nomination for Once on This Island in 1991. Her other Broadway credits include Dreamgirls, Company, Ragtime, and, most recently, If/Then.
Jason Robert Brown's most recent Broadway offering, Honeymoon in Vegas, played at the Nederlander Theatre last year. He is also the composer behind the musicals Parade, The Bridges of Madison County, and The Last Five Years. A film version of The Last Five Years, starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan, was released in 2015.
Brown's SubCulture residency is currently in its second year. Each performance incorporates a mix of material featuring music from throughout his career, along with new works in development. The series has featured an array of special guests, including Kelli O’Hara, Steve Pasquale, Norbert Leo Butz, Tom Kitt, Tony Danza, Laura Benanti, Cynthia Erivo, Tituss Burgess, Lena Hall, and more.
