Kennedy Center Receives $22.5 Million Commitment for Newly Named DeVos Institute of Arts Management

The Kennedy Center has received a $22.5 million commitment from Betsy and Dick DeVos for the newly named DeVos Institute of Arts Management at the Kennedy Center, formerly the Kennedy Center Arts Management Institute. The institute maintains an array of programs that help to strength nonprofit arts organizations.

Among the institute’s offerings is the Capacity Building program, which helps organizations strengthen fundraising, marketing, and programming initiatives, through seminars, web chats, and on-site consultations. These have been offered on a large-scale in New York, Chicago and Washington, DC and will soon grow to include additional areas throughout the country. The institute also offers Board Development Seminars, which address issues surrounding non-profits’ board leadership and expansion.

The institute’s Arts in Crisis: A Kennedy Center Initiative was launched in February 2009 and has given free consultation to more than 750 non-profit performing arts organizations with the assistance of 140 volunteer mentors from around the United States. In 2010, the Institute has welcomed ten year-round fellows, as well as 42 arts managers from 28 countries to its Summer International Fellowship program, which will bring participants to the Kennedy Center for three consecutive years for practical training.

Other initiatives that will continue or be enhanced at the DeVos Institute include artsmanager.com and the Performing Artists Cultural Visitors Programs, as well as several other internship and fellowship programs.
