Jennifer Carpenter, Pablo Schreiber Set for Rajiv Joseph’s Gruesome Playgorund Injuries

Jennifer Carpenter and Pablo Schreiber will star in Rajiv Joseph’s two character play Gruesome Playground Injuries, to begin performances at Second Stage Theatre on January 5 in anticipation of an official opening January 31. Scott Ellis will direct the production.

The play centers on two childhood friends, whose lives intersect over the course of 30 years, and the ways in which physical calamities keep drawing them together.

Carpenter may be best known for her portrayal of Debra Morgan on the Showtime series Dexter, on which she co-stars with her husband, Michael C. Hall. She appeared in The Crucible on Broadway. Among her other stage credits are Everett Beeking, Julie Johnson, and Trudy Blue.

Schreiber received a Tony Award nomination for his performance in Awake and Sing!, and also starred on Broadway in Desire Under the Elms. Off-Broadway he has appeared in Reasons >to be Pretty, Dying City, Mr. Marmalade, Manuscript, Sin: A Cardinal Deposed, Blood Orange, and Julius Caesar. His film appearances include Vicky Christina Barcelona, The Lords of Dogtown, Tell Tale, Nights in Rodanthe, The Manchurian Candidate, and Breaking Upwards.

The creative team will include scenic designer Neil Patel; costume designer Jeff Mahshie; and sound designer Ryan Rumery.
