He's Just Our Bill: New Play About Clinton Set to Open at the Fringe logo

Bill Clinton -- Staged!
Portrait of a President, a new play about Bill Clinton, will have its world premiere as part of the 2002 New York International Fringe Festival -- five performances only, August 10-25. What makes the play especially newsworthy is the fact that it was written by Herman Daniel Farrell III, son of Herman "Denny" Farrell, Jr., the current Chair of the New York State Democratic Party.

"A fictional tale set in the White House during the final, tumultuous year of the Clinton administration," Portrait of a President focuses on four American artists -- a soccer mom from Cincinnati, a lesbian from Woodstock, an African-American from Memphis, and a Vietnamese-American from Los Angeles -- who compete for the chance to paint the official White House portrait of Clinton.

Directed by Nancy Jones, the production has a cast that features Pun Bandhu, John Daggett, Arthur French, Alice Haining, Anita Hollander, Leslie Lyles, Angel Laketa Moore, and Ron Riley. It will be presented at Theater for the New City, 155 First Avenue (between 9th and 10th streets). All tickets are priced at $12 and may be purchased by phoning 212-420-8877 (if you live outside NYC, phone 1-888-FRINGENYC) or through the website
