About the Show

A Most Conspicuous Theatre presents the world premiere of Portrait of a President, by Herman Daniel Farrell III, directed by Nancy Jones at the 2002 New York International Fringe Festival.

The play is a fictional tale set in the White House in the last year of the Clinton Administration. Four American artists (a soccer mom from Cincinnati, a lesbian from Woodstock, an African-American from Memphis and a Vietnamese-American from Los Angeles) tour the Executive Mansion and peruse the art: the portraits of the Presidents. One of the artists will be chosen to paint the official portrait of the 42nd President of the United States. The play challenges our notions of this vibrant and controversial leader.
