The Playwrights Realm has announced a “1 to 5 Ticket Drive” initiative for the first five preview performances of the New York premiere of Lauren Yee’s The Hatmaker’s Wife. This drive means that all tickets for the first performance are $1, and the prices increase by a dollar for each subsequent performance that week. A regularly priced ticket is $30. The initiative will take place August 27-August 31.

The Hatmaker’s Wife is the story of a young woman who moves in with her boyfriend only to find that her new home is not what she expected. The walls tell her the tale of an old hatmaker and his long-suffering wife, who eventually runs away with her husband’s favorite hat. The production is set to run August 27-September 21 with an opening night on September 5. OBIE Award winner Rachel Chavkin (Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812) will direct.

The Playwrights Realm is dedicated to supporting playwrights by helping them to hone their craft and build their careers.

“The ‘1 to 5 Ticket Drive’ is an initiative we are pleased to offer to ticket buyers in hopes that by removing financial barriers, the work of emerging talents like Lauren Yee can be seen by as many people as possible,” said Artistic Director Katherine Kovner in a statement.
